FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE…
SPRINGFIELD, VA — Interstate Worldwide Relocation Services, a leading global provider of transportation, relocation, and logistics management solutions, announced today that Lewis Crocket, George Laignel and Leonard Spicer Sr. will retire from Interstate at the end of they year after a dedicated 40 years at Interstate.
Lewis Crocket celebrated 47 years of service to Interstate and retired as an owner/operator.
He first joined Interstate when it first organized as Ace Moving and Storage and located on Howard Road in Anacostia. He was known as one of Interstate's top drivers and had a reputation for taking any job assigned to him and completing it to the best of his ability. Buddy Morrissette, Chairman of Interstate, speaks fondly of working along side of Lewis on a day to day basis. In the early sixties, Lewis and Buddy, with the help of their wives, operated a Virginia motel while working days moving furniture for Interstate. They worked nights and weekends at the Prince William County motel and drove together to Howard Road every weekday morning to work in the moving business.
George Laignel spent his entire career with Interstate marking 43 years of service with Interstate. Starting in 1964 as a mover and packer George worked hard up the ranks and is now retiring as warehouse manager. He is known for his dedication, hard work, positive attitude and unlimited energy. Younger workers dreaded being assigned to work along side George; even in his sixties they could not keep up with his pace. George was responsible for the lower warehouse and served as custodian of cartons and packing supplies.
Leonard (Teddy) Spicer Sr. retired as an owner/operator after more than years of service with Interstate. During his career which started in 1964, he received the Driver of the Year Award in 1976 and was a 22 time recipient of the Safe Driving Award. Teddy grew up in North Carolina and came to the Washington, DC area in 1962 until his return to North Carolina in 1976. Teddy was also a dedicated employee and stated, “If I could, I would come back to Interstate in an instant. They were always good to me and I was proud to work for Interstate for so many years.” Although Teddy will not be driving an Interstate truck anymore, his retirement plans entail traveling across country by car with his wife.
“I will miss Interstate, but its time for me to move on to a new chapter in my life,” Crocket said. “I am looking forward to relaxing and spending more time with my grandchildren.”
“I want to thank Lewis, George and Leonard for their tremendous contribution over the past 40+ years for their participation in helping to make Interstate so successful,” said Arthur E. (Buddy) Morrissette, Jr., president of Interstate. “Their efforts were crucial to Interstate's growth and we are very thankful to have had these dedicated and hard working men for the past several decades. We wish them a safe and happy retirement.”
