INTERSTATE SECURES INAUGURAL AMSA ‘INDY’ AWARD

Innovations Result in Recognition as “Independent Mover of the Year”

SPRINGFIELD, VA —Interstate Van Lines, a leading global provider of transportation, relocation, and logistics management solutions, announced today that it has won the American Moving and Storage Association’s (AMSA) first-ever “Indy” Award, the Independent Mover of the Year for 2007. The “Indy” Award reflects AMSA’s and the industry’s commitment to outstanding performance among independent movers and the industry as a whole. Interstate introduced multiple innovations in customer service, which resulted in its recognition as the top independent mover out of over nine other well known movers in the country that competed for the award.

Knowing that safety and security are on everyone’s mind, and recognizing that moving families are relinquishing a lifetime of memories and possessions, Interstate recently introduced the Driver and Agent Recognition System (DARS™), which provides relevant information about the assigned driver to military customers, transportation offices and service providers before the shipment is loaded at the moving site. Each Interstate driver has his/her own web page that includes a photograph, brief biography, education, and professional accomplishments (including a notation of prior military service). To help reduce the stress that can occur during the moving process, DARS delivers online information and sets expectations up front to prevent the “Stranger at the Door.” The new service has been proven to bring peace of mind to the relocating family by introducing in advance the person as well who will be handling their possessions.

Realizing that moving is one of the top five most traumatic experiences, Interstate launched the PAL™ program to assist customers and family members with each step in the move process. The company assigns a dedicated Partner and Liaison (PAL) to each customer family; the PAL’s photo, short biography and detailed contact information are emailed to the customer as an introduction. As a single point of contact for any questions or issues, the Partner and Liaison helps to reduce stress by easing customers and their family members through the entire move process. Interstate’s dedicated representative helps to deliver a Top Hat Service experience and increases customer satisfaction.

According to AMSA president and chief executive officer, Linda Bauer Darr stated, “Each year we find that the bar is raised. The winner of the ‘Indy’ award exemplifies the best of the moving industry and how businesses should perform. Congratulations to Interstate Van Lines for setting the highest in industry standards.”

John D. Morrissette, president of Interstate Van Lines, accepted the “Indy” award at the recent 2008 AMSA conference. Mr. Morrissette stated, “Interstate is the only organization providing these innovative value-added services to our customers and their families so as to ensure the delivery of Interstate’s Top Hat Service.” He summarized, “Interstate’s DARs and PAL programs are prime examples of Interstate’s industry-first innovations that demonstrate our strong commitment to ensuring that we best meet our valued customers’ ever-changing requirements.”
